The approach

Seek, Find, Pick.

A simple sequence that mirrors how good decisions are actually made.

  1. Seek

    Understand what matters.

Start with the problem, not the product. What will you actually use it for, what are your constraints, and which features genuinely make a difference?

  2. Find

    Research and compare your options.

Survey what is available, set aside marketing noise, and line up the options that deserve a closer look against the things you said matter.

  3. Pick

    Choose what fits.

Weigh the trade-offs honestly — price, value, limits — and make a choice that suits your situation, not someone else’s idea of “the best”.

How we evaluate

Our research method.

Six steps we apply whatever the category. Our research draws on manufacturer specifications, product documentation, independent sources and publicly available information.

  1. seek

    Start with your needs

We begin with the situations people buy for — how a product will be used, by whom, and under what constraints — before looking at any specific product.

  2. find

    Research the available options

We review what is on the market using manufacturer specifications, documentation, independent sources and publicly available information, and note where information is thin or unclear.

  3. find

    Compare meaningful differences

We focus on the differences that change the outcome for a buyer, not long spec sheets. If two options are effectively the same for most people, we say so.

  4. pick

    Identify the trade-offs

Every choice gives something up. We spell out what you gain and what you lose with each option so the compromise is visible before you buy.

  5. pick

    Weigh price against value

The cheapest and the most expensive options are rarely the only answers. We look at what the extra money actually buys, and when it is not worth it.

  6. pick

    Help you decide what fits

Instead of one universal “winner”, we aim to show which option suits which situation, so you can make a confident choice for yours.

Editorial standards

What you can expect from us.

  • We say what we did — and what we didn’t

Each guide explains how it was researched. If we haven’t used a product hands-on, we won’t imply that we have.

  • Compensation doesn’t determine our analysis

Compensation does not determine our analysis, conclusions, or the trade-offs we present. Merchants and brands cannot pay for a favourable assessment.

  • No invented scores

We avoid precise-looking ratings that suggest testing we haven’t done. We would rather explain a trade-off in words than attach a number to it.

  • We update and correct

Products, prices and availability change. We review guides over time, show when they were last updated, and fix errors when they are pointed out.
